One of the best parts of traveling is tasting foods from different regions and cultures. It’s the perfect excuse to venture outside your comfort zone and try things you couldn’t or wouldn’t order at home. Just ask Karsyn from Charlotte, North Carolina, who experienced this firsthand while traveling in Europe.

“I have always had a deep love for food; however, I didn’t fully embrace that love until I traveled abroad. All the flavors and textures of food from around the world changed the way I look at food.

One of the best dishes I have had was in Madrid, Spain. I truly think about this dish weekly. It was a flatbread pizza with pumpkin. Yes, you heard me correctly…PUMPKIN!! At first, I expressed my reservations with my friend but she insisted that I try it. So, I did. I felt like I had an out-of-body experience eating that pizza. I never thought in a million years that I would eat/like a pizza with pumpkin on it. After that, I was hooked on trying foods that pushed the envelope of what was considered the ‘norm.’

That pumpkin pizza changed my life and I am forever grateful.”

This memory is proof that it’s never too late to expand your palate, and that trying something as simple as a new vegetable on pizza can pay off in big ways.
