Cadbury Creme Eggs! They are back!

We absolutely love Cadbury creme eggs here at The Food Memory Project! I (Lisa) remember when those Cadbury Eggs hit the American market, and I was instantly hooked. 🙂 Yes, I have a bit of a sweet tooth!

I still remember the Cadbury Egg commercial where different animals wearing bunny ears would audition to be the Cadbury bunny. Such a cute commercial and it instantly put me on the look out for Cadbury Creme eggs. Obviously, it was effective marketing!

What is it about a Cadbury Egg that invokes deeply engrained food memories of sweetness, spring and Easter? For me (Lisa) it was initially the uniqueness of the egg. I wanted to try my first one, because I was intrigued by the whole egg appearance and that yolk. I still wonder how they get the yellow yolk inside.

That uniqueness got me my first bite. The taste kept me a loyal fan. Maybe it was the sugar rush, but still…..

Before this year, we’ve always eaten our Cadbury eggs straight out of the package. Absolutely delicious! But this year….

We upped our egg game. We put Cadbury Creme Eggs in brownies! Genius, right?!

Our New Favorite Cadbury Creme Egg Brownie

We are not the first to to this. In fact, we used the Cravings of a Lunatic’s Creme Egg Brownie recipe. Her brownie recipe alone is delicious! Add in those mini-Cadbury creme eggs and it’s sublime!

Let’s back up and take a look at the Cadbury Creme egg. It have been existence since the 1920’s. It was not until the mid-1970’s that the Cadbury Creme Egg became a super popular Easter/Spring treat here in the U. S. During peak egg season, a Cadbury factory can produce up to 1.5 million eggs a day!

When Easter is gone, so are the Cadbury eggs. I remember making a point to go to the store the day after Easter to replenish my Cadbury egg stash from the Easter candy sale aisle before they all disappear until the next year.

Recently, while the calendar said spring, outside was quite cold and rainy. That made it a perfect day to get creative in the kitchen, and I was in a chocolate mood! Off to Target I went to purchase Cadbury Creme Eggs for my brownies. This was all in the name of experimentation and creativity, mind you. [I bought extra eggs, just in case I needed to verify the results.]

I chose the Cravings of a Lunatic’s recipe, because the brownie part itself is ooey and gooey as it should be. [Sarah and I prefer making our brownies from scratch, but you can use a brownie mix if you prefer.] Mini creme eggs are used for this recipe. Simply cook your brownies halfway. sprinkle those mini creme eggs through out and finish baking.

Once cooled these “chocoholic ultimate treats” are ready to eat!

Cadbury Egg Flavors

Did you know Cadbury Creme Eggs come in other flavors? Have you tried:

  • Cadbury Caramel Creme Egg
  • Cadbury Orange Creme Egg
  • Cadbury Mint Creme Egg

We are purists, so usually stick with the traditional creme egg, but this might be the year to branch out to new flavors.
